There’s certainly a place for Online Payroll, but sometimes we want the desktop version, which doesn’t just integrate with your desktop QuickBooks, but is a part of it. A search for QuickBooks Payroll results in QuickBooks Online Payroll, and the search for the desktop versions is tedious. Searching for QuickBooks Desktop Payroll… I’m certain this is all for a purpose, but I’m just an end user trying to find information on the products. But my online searches for QuickBooks Payroll, QuickBooks Desktop Payroll, and QuickBooks Online Payroll all take me to a succession of different sites, all apparently put up by first-year marketing students – students who have tweaked the list of features, benefits, and prices for whatever random purpose came to them after a night of debauchery. Their software has been good to me, good for my business, and good for my clients. I may have mixed my metaphors a bit, but I’m only following Intuit’s lead here. However, trying to do a definitive overview of QuickBooks Payroll options is like going down the rabbit hole and into the cavern of chaos. Many end users can become confused by the varied options, and it’s our job, as consultants, to make sure they have the option that works best for them. QuickBooks desktop software is such a heavily used package by consumers, bookkeepers, and accountants that we’ll start there. Whether you want to do payroll on your desktop or in the cloud, there are a host of options for you and your clients, and among all the choices you’re bound to find a good fit. The world of payroll is confusing, and so is the world of payroll options.
